An Afternoon At Masters of Taste
It’s no secret Masters of Taste is my favorite culinary event of the year. Serving an array of food and drink with all proceeds benefiting Union Station Homeless Services it’s practically perfect in every way. Recently, I attended my 4th annual festival and, once again, it was a blast.
This year’s event featured over 95 culinary masters and I sampled a good portion of their offerings. My very first stop was at Ramen Tatsunoya one of my favorite vendors.
This years offering, the Vegan Mabo Ramen, proved why they remain my favorite booth from year to year. The robustly flavored ramen was an absolute delight and the perfect way to start the fest.
Another delight was the Porchetta Vignole from The Raymond 1886. This spring vegetable stew was filled with fresh vegetables and porchetta and was a delicious taste of the season.
Continuing the soup theme I also loved the Pozole Verde topped with a Potato Broccoli Taquito from Pez Cantina. The pozole was filled with fresh ingredients and had the perfect dose of spice and the taquito topped with a Roasted Poblano Crema masterfully accompanied it.
The Kitchen For Exploring Foods offered an Al Pastor Cauliflower Tostada that was out of this world. The cauliflower proved to be an excellent alternative to pork and the tostada was a delightful spin on a classic dish.
Of course, I needed something to wash that all down with and The Raymond delivered a wonderful Whiskey Smash. The smokiness of the whiskey was beautifully offset by the citrus and mint providing a wonderfully cooling cocktail.
I always have room for desert and I was so happy to see My/Mo Mochi offering an array of mochi ice cream. Mochi ice cream is a weakness of mine and I may have enjoyed one…or two…or three…
Another weakness of mine is matcha and I adored these Match Flavored Rice Crispy Treats from Matcha Matcha. Who knew matcha powder paired so well with this American classic? I think I ate enough samples to make up a full sized bar!
Once again Masters of Taste hit it out of the park. And the best part is that over $500,000 was raised for Union Station Homeless Services. Just imagine how many needy people that will help! It’s absolutely wonderful.
