Football Favorites Now on the Menu at Oggi’s Sports | Brewhouse | Pizza

Whenever I want a good pizza Oggi’s Sports | Brewhouse | Pizza is one of my go to spots. Their tasty pies come in a myriad of flavors and always satisfy. But there’s more to Oggi’s than pizza – in fact, there’s a whole huge menu! Recently, I was invited to come in and sample their latest offerings of Football Favorites – dishes that are perfect to chow down on while enjoying the big game.

Almost as famous as Oggi’s pizza is their hand-crafted beers and several are suggested pairings for the Football Favorites. I made sure to order a flight to pair with my meal.

I started with the Candied Bacon Salad which features mixed greens topped with almonds, Gorgonzola cheese, candied bacon, fried shallots and a sherry vinaigrette. This was paired with McGarvey’s Scottish Ale – a malty, red ale. The salad was full of flavor with the bacon, Gorgonzola and shallots combining for a sweet yet savory indulgence. It paired perfectly with the ale which offered a tart counterpoint to the sweetness of the bacon.

For my entree I opted for the Hawaiian Short Rib Tacos with pineapple slaw, jalapenos, feta and avocado topping the shredded beef. The tacos were hearty and filling with the pineapple adding a hint of sweetness. It was suggested to pair this with the Duck Dive Hefeweizen but I found the beer too tart and the combination lacking. I instead opted to pair it with the California Gold Blonde – a light cream ale and the flavors matched perfectly. I did find the chips and salsa a bit unnecessary – the tacos are filling enough on their own.

For dessert, there’s the Apple Cinnamon Calzone which is accompanied by vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. The freshly baked dough is filled to the brim with tender cinnamon apples making it the perfect fall dessert. I absolutely loved it. It was suggested to pair the dessert with the Black Magic Stout – a strong Irish Stout. This was another great pairing with the sweetness of the desert perfectly offsetting the intense stout. As a side note, I would suggest ordering the calzone when you order your entree as it does take some time to bake.

In addition to the Football Favorites, Oggi’s is also offering their latest limited edition brew and I was sent a bottle so I could try it at home.

City by the Sea is an American pale ale with a light body and a heavy hop flavor. It’s perfect for the IPA lover as a it offers a a strong hint of bitterness. Not exactly my cup of tea but I know plenty of people who would love it.

With it’s Football Favorites Oggi’s Sports | Brewhouse | Pizza is proving to be so much more than beer and pizza. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
