Frank Sinatra at the Grammy Museum

Oh Frankie. How I love you. You may have been a boozer, a womanizer and had suspicious connections to the mob but you were still the epitome of cool. And that voice. THE Voice.

As this year is the the Sinatra Centennial the Grammy Museum just opened a special exhibit devoted to the Chairman of the Board. Sinatra: An American Icon opened October 21 and last weekend Shannon and I made sure to see it.

The Grammy Museum is actually one of my favorite LA institutions. With interactive features and amazing music artifacts it’s a fun place to explore. Going in I figured the Sinatra exhibit would be a good one and I wasn’t wrong.

The exhibit is a timeline of Sinatra’s life and career starting with his early days in Hoboken and ending with his golden years in Palm Springs. There’s tons of artifacts from the obvious (his signature fedora) to the lesser know (his personal paintings). There’s also pieces from those who influenced him such as Bing Crosby and Ella Fitzgerald. Although photography was not allowed I did manage to sneak a pic of Der Bingle’s pipe.

Boy, did I belt out That’s Life. I didn’t know I had it in me!

The exhibit is a true treat for any Sinatra fan and Shannon and I were in seventh heaven. We may not have been around during his heyday but at least we could immerse ourselves in his world for a little while.
