Having Dinner at Amor Y Tacos

You all know I love a good Mexican food restaurant. Just the sight of chips and salsa makes my mouth water. So when Amor Y Tacos contacted me asking if I’d like to check out their dinner menu I was over the moon. Of course I wanted to try it out!

Amor Y Tacos is the brainchild of Chef Thomas Ortega and is located in his hometown of Cerritos. Last week I headed over there one evening to try out the menu.

As you can see, the restaurant has a full bar so naturally, I started the evening with a margarita.

margaritaI went for the Amor House Margarita – orange, lime, agave, pineapple sauza with a chili sugar rim.  Wow! It was so so good – like an amazing agua fresca with kick. My companion went for the red sangria. Of course I had to sneak a taste and it was also quite yummy.

After drinks and the requisite chips and salsa we sampled a couple of items from the appetizer menu – mole tater tots and charred brussel sprouts.

I enjoyed the mole tater tots but the charred brussel sprouts were ah-mazing! Everyone at the table raved about them and we all practically licked the bowl clean. They were charred to perfection, coated wtih garlic and cotija cheese and came with a dipping sauce that was so tasty. I kept telling myself to save room for dinner but they were so good I couldn’t stop nibbling.

As for dinner, we all tried something different. There was short ribs –

and, my dish, the taco sampler.

Needless to say, we all loved our dishes. In fact, my companion that tried the short rib is not the biggest fan of Mexican food but she loved her dinner. She said that it was the first time she found a Mexican restaurant that she couldn’t wait to go back to. Now that’s saying something!

At this point we were all stuffed to the gills and politely declined dessert. But…when I heard there were churros involved I knew I had to squeeze them in.

Freshly made with salted caramel dipping sauce, they were the perfect capper to our delicious dinner. As we left the restaurant, our bellies filled, we already started making plans for when we would come back.
