Holiday Model Trains Come to Muzeo

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Come on, sing with me! I love Christmas. It’s my very favorite holiday and and I try to make the most of it. It’s been a little harder this year since I’ve been under the weather but I’m still determined to have as much holiday spirit as possible. I’ve already visited Santa (Seriously, check my instagram for proof) and I previewed a super cool train exhibit at Muzeo. It’s called Muzeo Express: Holiday Model Trains and is definitely worth checking out.

The exhibit consists of five different displays put together by the Toy Train Operating Society and the Train Collectors Association. These organizations previously put together the annual Nixon Library holiday display and their skills are evident in the new exhibit. The highlight is a recreation of a Macy’s window featuring a nostalgic holiday village.

I loved it but my favorite display was the Post-War Style featuring a busy village filled with holiday cheer.

It’s like the small town of my dreams. I want to eat at O’Grady’s Tavern and shop at Jim’s Five and Dime!

I also loved the Tin Plate Trains display featuring actual vintage pieces.

I wasn’t that familiar with tin plate trains and it was a real treat seeing such beautifully preserved pieces.

Kids will surely be delighted by the The North Pole display inspired by The Polar Express and featuring Thomas the Tank Engine.

In addition there will be Polar Express Pajama Parties on December 2nd and 10th featuring fun crafts and delicious treats. For the grown ups there will be a Holiday Tea on Sunday, December 4th featuring a traditional tea service, carolers and a performance of Celtic Christmas Show. All details can be found here.

If you’re looking to get into the holiday spirit Muzeo Express is the perfect exhibit to see. In fact, make a day of it. After visiting the museum stroll down Center Street and then take the trolley to the Packing House for a bite to eat. Every place is decorated and it’s sure to be a perfectly festive day.
