Keep Cool Daddy-o – A Visit To Chill at the Queen Mary

It’s Christmas time! It’s Christmas time! As the song says, it’s the most wonderful time of the year. I love to fully embrace the season – decorating, baking cookies, and indulging in Christmas themed activities. And recently I got to do just that when I visited Chill at the Queen Mary.

Chill is a bevvy of winter activities at the famed art deco ship. There’s Santa and tubing and ice skating and the incredible Ice Kingdom.
Now I’m a little old to visit Santa, I don’t care about tubing, and I’m an awful ice skater so thank goodness for the Ice Kingdom. It’s an enclosed area filled with larger than life handmade ice sculptures that are, to put it in one word, amazing. So rather than go on about them and on I’ll just share some pics with you.
Whew! That was a lot of pics. Pretty incredible, huh? And the whale and ship have slides that anyone is welcome to make use of.

Now word to the wise – it is VERY cold in there. I think they told us it was 2 degrees. Brrr! I made sure to dress warm and they give you parkas to wear so it is bearable. I actually kind of liked it seeing as how we never get to experience a real winter here in SoCal.

Also, it’s kind of pricey. I was lucky enough to have a friend who works there and was able to attend the employee preview for free. But to buy a ticket to the entire Chill event it’s $26.95 for adults and the Ice Kingdom alone is $19.95. Hmmm….I would say $26.95 is much too much. Honestly, I didn’t take part in anything outside of the Ice Kingdom portion. And $19.95? It’s still a bit much but it was really cool. I have seen discount tickets floating around so if you get a hold of one, definitely check it out.

Chill at the Queen Mary runs through January 6th.
