Let’s Get Our Ag On! A Visit To the Museum of Ventura County Agriculture Museum

“You said a mouthful toots!”

I believe that may very well be my longest post title ever. Heck, that may be the longest museum name for all I know. Sheesh! But I suppose I shouldn’t start off complaining. You may be liable to think (I don’t know if I wrote that term correctly…) that I didn’t like the good ol’ MoVCAM (my abbreviation) when in fact I liked it very much.

And these horses will not have you thinking otherwise!

Do you recall when I wrote about my visit to the California Oil Museum in Santa Paula? Well, that wasn’t the only museum I visited that day. I also stopped by the Agriculture Museum to see what it’s all about.

First off, it’s housed in a historic structure which I immediately loved (of course). It’s next the the railroad tracks and the structure (built in the 1800’s!) was initially a warehouse. Then for many decades it housed a farm supply store – only closing after the deaths of the owners. And now, it’s a pretty sweet museum.

Inside you’ll find lots of artifacts from Ventura County’s agricultural past.

And while these pieces are very impressive they are not my favorite part of the place. No, that would be the fact that many of the exhibits are interactive! Now, I know the purpose is to get the kiddies interested but who says adults can’t have fun too! You can climb aboard a couple of wagons, dress up, and play games – all while learning!

That awesome illustration was from an exhibit about farming. I believe we were asked to draw what kind of farmer we would be. I don’t know about you but I like that kid’s style!
