Semi-Precious Sweets – Enjoying Dessert at Semi Sweet Bakery

So, on Monday I told how much I love to read. Yesterday, I revealed that I really enjoy walking tours. And today? Well, today Ima gonna let you know that I simply adore a good bakery. I just love walking into such an establishment taking in that deliciously sweet aroma and viewing the gorgeously arrayed treats available for purchase.

After the walking tour on Saturday my sis and I decided to grab ourselves a little treat (you know the best thing to do after exercise is eat dessert). So after a good but pricey lunch at Umamicatessen we headed on over to Semi Sweet Bakery, a place we had heard of but never tried.

Nestled in a small space across the street from the historic Cole’s it’s a quaint spot. I’d describe the location more, but that’s not what this is all about. It’s all about the DESSERTS. Donuts, coffee cake, danish, cookies, man oh man what a variety! And there’s MORE! For, Semi-Sweet makes homemade versions of those snacks everybody loves – Pop Tarts and Ding Dongs. Here they’re called Pocket Tarts and Ding A Lings and they come in a large variety of flavors.

With so much to chose from, we went a bit nuts. But for a quick treat, it’s a sweet deal as all the desserts are under $3.

Here’s a selection of my favorites –

Samoa Macaron

7UP Cake

PB Crunch, Hazelnut Crunch, & Traditional Ding A Lings

So, let’s start at the bottom. I loved the Hazelnut Crunch Ding A Ling as I’m a sucker for hazelnut/chocolate combo (I liked the tradition and didn’t try the PB – you didn’t think all this food was for myself, did you?).

The 7UP cake – so, so good. It tasted like lemon cake, I would have never guessed it was made with soda. And look at how big that slice is!

The Samoa Macaron – heavenly, simply heavenly. It’s better than any Girl Scout Samoa ever could be. The cookie is light as hair with a hint of flavor that perfectly offsets the sweet caramel in the middle. It’s definitely one of my new favorite things.

Oh, and be sure to try their lemonade. When I went the flavor was Mango Lemon Lime. Deeeelicious!
