Shopping for Baking Supplies at Surfas Culinary District

Have you ever been to Surfas Culinary District? It’s a culinary supply store with locations in Culver City and Costa Mesa. It’s been around since 1937 and has everything under the sun when it comes to food and cooking. If you’re a fan of these things it’ll become your Mecca.

I personally can’t get enough of it. If I’m anywhere near either location I need to stop in and often leave with a purchase. It’s just that kind of place. Recently, I was in a chocolatey mood and picked up a container of Valrhona Unsweetened 100% Cocoa Powder (full disclosure: I was given it for free).

Have you ever heard of Valrhona? (I’m starting to sound like a broken record!). Well, it’s the creme de la creme of baking chocolate. Use this stuff and your desserts will be that much better. Just look at it:

What a thing of beauty.

Now, I’d love to say I quickly made something with it but my sister beat me to it. She took some of the cocoa and whipped up a batch of the most delicious chocolate ice cream I’ve ever had.

If you’re not near a Surfas location you can also order the cocoa online.

I love Surfas… and had an awesome time when I visited the Culver City location… btw: during the holidays they carry Lefsa if you need to know… 😉

I spent a good hour there just looking through all the baking supplies and the fun products around the store… I bet the Costa Mesa location is just as lovely.

It’s such a fabulous place! The Costa Mesa store is just as awesome as the Culver City one:)
