Spotlight on Chuao Chocolatier

local spotlight

Oh man, this week’s local spotlight is a good one.  Well, they’re always good ones but this week is CHOCOLATE. Chuao Chocolate, to be exact.

Chuao Chocolatier is a San Diego based company founded by Chef Michael Antonorsi and his brother Richard. These Venezuelan brothers are descended from cacao farmers so naturally they founded a chocolate company. And if you’re wondering about the name, it’s a nod to the Chuao region of Venezuela, famed for it’s cacao farms.

Chuao Chocolatier is know for it’s high quality, innovative chocolate bars and I was lucky enough to receive a sample of their newest creation – the Pop Corn Pop Bar.

This bar was inspired by good old fashioned pop corn and it is quite a treat. It’s made with creamy milk chocolate and has a surprise ingredient – popping candy. Now, I must admit when I first looked at the bar I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. I was never a big fan of pop rocks and was wary of a popping chocolate bar.

I needn’t have worried. It was delicious! The chocolate is amazingly rich and creamy and the popping candy is a fun touch. I shared the samples with my family and before we knew it they were all gone. But it was a delicious treat while it lasted and I can’t wait to try all the other flavors (Rocky road?Potato chip?I’m in heaven!).
