Celebrating Modern Architecture with the LA Conservancy

Now you know how much I love the Los Angeles Conservancy. I told you all about the perks of being a volunteer. I told you about the awesome tour I went on and about my visit to the oldest building in LA. Well, this time I’m going to tell you all about something YOU can do with the Conservancy. Yup, instead of writing about my experience at an event that’s already over I’m going to tell you all about an event that hasn’t happened yet. Why? So that you can go and enjoy for yourself the awesomeness the Conservancy has to offer.

Remember when I mentioned the Pacific Standard Time program? You know, when I went to LACMA and was immersed in Mid Century fabulousness? Well, Pacific Standard Time is back and this time it’s focusing on Modern Architecture in LA.

So where does the Conservancy fit in? Well, on April 20th they will be conducting a tour called Venice Eclectic: Modern Architecture from the 1970’s and 80’s. As you may have guessed it takes place in Venice and is going to highlight some of the unique structures that make Venice…well…Venice! Here’s some of my favorites.

Indiana Avenue Houses/Arnoldi Triplex – I don’t know what that picture is showing. Stairs? A ceiling? Either way it looks awesome. And it was designed by Frank Gehry as studio spaces for artists. As Abed would say “Cool.Coolcoolcool.”

Winward Circle – I’m gonna let the Conservancy tell ya about this one “Three postmodern structures pay homage to Venice’s early history while bringing new energy to the heart of the community.” They had me at “homage to Venice’s early history.”

Ed Moses Studio – This is a collaboration between Ed Moses and Steven Ehrlich and was originally a small garage. Now it’s an award winning studio!  And simply amazing looking.
These are only three of the stops on the tour. For the others you’re just going to have to check out the Conservancy’s website😉 Hint: another stop is the former home of a famous actor. How’s that for a tease?
So on April 20th head on over to Venice and check out Venice Eclectic: Modern Architecture from the 1970’s and 80’s. Tickets are only $35 for adults, $30 for Conservancy members (sounds like a good time to join!), $15 for students, and $10 for the kiddos. Find out all details here.
