A Tribute to Eames at Gallery Nucleus

As a fan of all things Mid-Century I always get excited when there’s a new exhibit celebrating the era. So when I learned one of my favorite galleries’, Gallery Nucleus, new show would be a tribute to Charles and Ray Eames I made sure to make it to opening night.

The Eames husband and wife team were design innovators in the 20th Century. Their signature pieces are iconic and their influence can be felt all over Southern California. Who better to pay ultimate tribute to them than my guy Shag? I wanted the painting above so badly but, unfortunately, was just short of the $14,000 price tag. Sigh.

Luckily, there were several other pieces on display and quite a few prints available for those of us with emptier wallets.

There are so many talented artists out there! It was lovely to see their beautiful tributes to the design masters. One of them, Ellen Surrey, was on hand to sign copies of her latest book (with Gloria Fowler) Mid-Century Modern Women in the Visual Arts. I became a fan of Ms. Surrey via Instagram and had to buy a copy. It’s a beautiful tribute to female design innovators such as Mary Blair and Edith head and I was lucky enough to have her sign my book.

Mad About Mid-Century: Tribute to Eames  at Gallery Nucleus runs through April 3rd and is well worth a visit.
