A Most Delicious Treat – Ice Cream Sundaes at Hans’ Homemade Ice Cream

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been roasting here. Southern California in August, yee-owza! I know I shouldn’t complain what with Irene harassing the East Coasters, but still….I…hate…the heat.

So what’s my remedy for dealing with the weather? Well, I scream, you scream and I’m gonna get me some ice cream. I loves, loves, loves ice cream and my favorite place to get it is a little hole in the wall across the street from South Coast Plaza called Hans’ Homemade Ice Cream. Hooray!

I’m gonna let you in on a little secret – I’ve been going to Hans’ since I was a little kid but….it wasn’t Hans’ then. It was Swensen’s. Remember Swensen’s. Loved that place. My family would always go for sundaes and drumsticks and chewy chocolate bars. And guess what? We still do. Because the only thing that changed is the name. The owners are the same, the products are the same – it just stopped being a Swensen’s franchise about 20 years ago.

So now you know and now all you have to do is go. That’s what I did recently. I grabbed three of my favorite people and headed on over for a good old fashioned ice cream sundae.

That my friends is the Black and White. Two scoops of chocolate ice cream topped with marshmallow cream, hot fudge and the usual suspects. Ordinarily, it comes with a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of chocolate but…vanilla isn’t my bag. I’m not down with the vanilla. Vanilla ain’t no friend of mine. Ok, I’ll stop now. Doesn’t that look so delicious? It was.

I suppose you want to see what everyone else ordered. I guess it’s not all about me and my issues with vanilla.

Up top is the Gold Digger – a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of coffee topped with hot fudge and caramel (substituted for butterscotch). In the past this was my go to sundae and I can attest to its deliciousness.

On the bottom we have a scoop of chocolate with hot fudge and a scoop of peppermint with hot fudge. Yes, peppermint ice cream in August. Dreams do come true.

So hows about heading on over to Hans’ and having your own sundae. I’m certainly not going to share.
