Alex’s Lemonade Stand and Rita’s Italian Ice Fight Childhood Cancer

What’s more perfect that a cup of Italian ice on a hot day? I’ve got something. A cup of Italian ice and a chance to support a wonderful charity, Alex’s Lemonade Stand.

Through June 18th when you visit a Rita’s Italian Ice you can donate $1 (or more!) for one of these handy dandy paper lemons.

The donation will then go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a charity founded in 2000 by the very brave Alexandra “Alex” Scott. Alex battled childhood cancer and after one hospital stay she decided to hold a lemonade stand to support other children suffering from this disease. In the ensuing years she continued to hold lemonade stands – all supporting childhood cancer research. Soon people all over the world joined her cause and the charity was born.

Recently, I visited the Rita’s Italian Ice in Redondo Beach and was happy to see the display of lemons people had purchased.

The is but a small section of the lemons lining the store. In these days when we seem to hear about more bad things happening than good it’s heartening to see so many people willing to support a good cause.
