2014 Holiday Film Screenings in Los Angeles

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Come on, sing with me! With the kids jingle belling and everyone telling you be of good cheeeeeer!

I can’t help it. I love Christmas. To me it truly is the most wonderful time of the year. And there’s no better way to celebrate than watching a classic holiday flick. Luckily, we live in a place where there are plenty to be seen on the big screen this season. Here’s a sampling of my holiday film screenings.

On the weekend of December 5-7th Old Town Music Hall in El Segundo will be showing Miracle on 34th Street.

Miracle on 34th Street

Old Town Music Hall is one of my favorite places to catch a film. It’s been around for nearly 50 years and any film screening there is real treat. There are multiple showings over the weekend so there’s really no excuse to miss it.

On Saturday, December 6th Street Food Cinema will be screening two modern classics at the historic Palace Theatre. At 4:30pm it’s the hilarious A Christmas Story and at 6:30pm it’s Elf.

Elf

I remember going to see Elf at the movies and being disappointed. Then, we got the DVD and I fell in love with it. Now it’s one of my absolute favorites and I make sure to watch it every year.

On December 7th there’s TWO great screenings to catch. First up is the annual Los Angeles Conservancy Holiday Matinee  at the Orpheum Theatre. This years feature is the modern classic Home Alone.

Home Alone

I was OBSESSED with this movie when I was a kid. I watched it so many times I practically wore out my VHS. You can be sure I’ll be there this Sunday. Show starts at 2pm and tickets are $15 for adults $5 for children.

One of my all time favorite films in Christmas in Connecticut. This sweet holiday love story starring the always amazing Barbara Stanwyck is sure to please any viewer.

I’m so happy that my favorite network TCM is presenting a double feature of it and A Christmas Carol in theaters nationwide. There will be two screenings on December 7th at 2pm and 7pm.

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of White Christmas. 60 years! Can you believe it?

To celebrate this landmark theaters nationwide will be screening the classic on Sunday December 14th. Again there’ll be two screenings at 2pm and 7pm. I’ve got my tickets already and can’t wait to see it!

Finally, on December 19-21st the American Cinematheque will be screening It’s A Wonderful Life.

It's a Wonderful Life

This perennial classic will be shown at both the Aero and the Egyptian on alternate nights. This is one of the few holiday classics that I haven’t seen on the big screen and I can’t think of a better organization to screen it.

With so many opportunities there’s really no excuse to catch a classic holiday flick on the big screen this season. So get out there Los Angeles and enjoy!
