Chowing Down at Pearl’s BBQ
Now that the temperatures are soaring we can firmly say summer is here. While I’m partial to cooler weather there is one part of the season I truly love – the food! Whether it’s fresh peaches and plums, grilled meats and baked beans or a heaping scoop of ice cream I’m all over it. Speaking of grilled meats…recently I was invited to try a new spot in the heart of the Arts District – Pearl’s BBQ.
Located just around the corner from Stumptown Cofee on quiet Violet Street it’s as if a piece of the Lone Star State dropped smack dab into the heart of LA.
It’s down home all the way with outdoor seating, an air-stream kitchen and one giant smoker. In the smoker is prepared two kinds of meat – dinosaur sized beef ribs and brisket.
I’ve had my fair share of brisket and it’s ranged from dry and tasteless to tender and flavorful. As for Pearl’s it’s melt in your mouth, holy moly this is amazing, delicious. It may , in fact, be the best brisket I’ve ever had.
In addition Pearl’s BBQ offers a number of sides including coleslaw, potato salad and cowboy caviar but the brisket is the true star. Available in 1/4, 1/2 and 1 pound increments it’s worth going out of your way for. In fact, I think I’ll head there soon to buy a pound to share with my family. On second thought, maybe they can get their own.
