Dog Day Afternoon – Walking in Harriet M. Wieder Regional Park

Hello! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Bailey. I’m a good friend of Melanie’s and often accompany her on her adventures. Since she still hasn’t gotten over the excitement of Sherlock’s return (It’s finally back after 18 months! I love you Dr. Watson! – Melanie) she kindly let me contribute today’s post. Cross your paws that I do well and maybe I can write on here regularly.

So, like I said, I often accompany Melanie on her adventures. Or at least the one’s that allow dogs. This is usually a park or a nature trail but I totally don’t mind as I’m really outdoorsy. Last week we went to one of my new favorite spots and I’d like to share it with you.

Harriet M. Wieder Regional Park is a small but interesting collection of nature trails in Huntington Beach. It’s off the beaten path and is nestled between housing developments and oil fields. It has lots of wildflowers and birds and small lil animals (squirrels? chipmunks? I can’t really tell cuz they’re always running away from me.). On a clear day it’s very lovely and offers an ocean view. Check out some picks from our recent adventure.

It was a beautiful day – the sun was shining, the birds were out, and the wildflowers were in full bloom. I was so happy cuz I got to do my favorite thing – stop and smell the flowers!

What a day! I’m so glad that they allow dogs here. I’ll definitely be back, right Melanie?

I’m incredible jealous that you live so close to the beach and birds like that. We have large water birds around here, but I’d have to use a super telephoto lens to get a pictures, they’re so skittish they fly away if they see movement even 200 ft from them. I guess that’s what happens when they live smack in the middle of a city suburb.

I did use the zoom, but it was pretty close. This park is right next to a residential development and I think the bird is too used to having people around.

I have never been to a park in OC but it sounds beautiful. I did, however catch the new episode of Sherlock on PBS and loved it!

I know! Sherlock is the best! I’m so sad there are only three episodes.
