A Duo of Upcoming Musical Events
I love wandering around the Southland discovering things and sharing them with you but sometimes I feel a little bad posting about and events that are done and gone. So today I have a special treat with a couple of upcoming musical events. I’m attending both and am pretty excited. Hopefully, you’ll be, too.
On Friday night pianist Denis Matsuev plays UCLA’s Royce Hall. Whether you’re a seasoned classical music fan or a newbie it’s sure to be a good show. Mr. Matsuev is one of today’s top pianists and has played the world over. He returns to Royce Hall after an impressive performance in 2012. On Friday’s bill will be various works which include Tchaikovsky’s Seasons and Schumann’s Kreisleriana. You can find tickets here.
A week later you’ll find me on the other side of LA at Casa 0101 Theater in Boyle Heights catching the musical Eastside Heartbeats. This show, which opened January 16, details tells the story of Jimmy Ramirez and his vocal group, the Eastside Hearbeats. Inspired by the true story of Cannibal and the Headhunters who opened for the Beatles in 1965 it’s a glimpse into the musical world of the 1960’s and the contributions made by Mexican Americans. You can find tickets here.
Though quite different each show is sure to be an entertaining time. I can’t wait.
