An Evening at Bowlero
As a person who loves all things vintage I often lament being unable to experience things that died out before my time. Like the automat. Why did that ever go away? Cute little windows filled with an array of culinary delights? What’s not to love about that? Luckily, there is a classic experience that I can still enjoy regularly – bowling. This timeless activity is still popular today and I’ve spent many a time knocking down pins just hoping to crack 100. Yeah. I’m pretty bad. But I still love it! Recently, I was invited to Bowlero in Westchester to check out an updated concept to the traditional alley and happily I headed on over.
Bowlero comes from AMF Bowling and is a brand new spin on the traditional alley. This location, on Lincoln Blvd. is housed in alley that was ready for an update. When I arrived I found the placed jumping. There were people everywhere having cocktails and appetizers, playing arcade games and, of course, bowling.
I headed to a lane and sat down to take it all in. Soon I was approached by a server who took my shoe size and offered me the cocktail menu. Full service at a bowling alley? Sweet.
I strapped on my brand new bowling shoes, ordered and drink and got ready to play.
Bowlero offers a full menu of snacks that you would expect to find at an alley – wings, fries, nachos, etc. But wait, this isn’t the traditional greasy fair you might expect. With a chef curated menu this is pub fare elevated. Think mango chipotle wings, korean braised biscuit sliders and bacon cheese meatballs. I was particularly partial to the enchiladas and the garlic parmesan wings. Then there was this guy.
The Behemoth Burger – 5 pounds of indulgence meant for a crowd.
I continued to nosh while I bowled a game.
When setting up the game I discovered that I needed to pose for a picture to accompany my score. As I played a game of black light bowling I also found myself the star of fun interstitial videos thanks to the photo op. Now you may be wondering if I was able to crack 100 and I can assuredly tell you I was not. My tenure in the double digits continues.
Since I wasn’t exactly setting the lanes on fire I decided to move onto the arcade games. While their are traditional options like Pac-Man the area also contains a large amount of midway style games.
Now that’s my jam! I played for awhile and discovered that I’m pretty good at electronic beer pong (minus the beer) but still stink at the goldfish game.
Bowlero is a fun concept that I’m sure I’ll enjoy again. I won’t stop visiting my local old fashioned alley but when I want to have a special night out I know just where to go.
