Four & Twenty Blackbirds Pie Bakery Collabs with Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream has fast become my favorite ice cream spot in LA. With flavors like Atlantic Beach Pie and Brambleberry Crisp I can’t get enough of it. This weekend Jeni’s hosted a pop-up by acclaimed Brooklyn pie shop Four & Twenty Blackbirds and I was lucky enough to be invited to come try a sample.
Now, I’m a regular at the Los Feliz Jeni’s but this was my first visit to their Venice location. Located at the corner of Rose and Rennie Avenue it’s in a quaint part of the city filled with boutiques and restaurants. I popped in and came face to face with some of Four & Twenty Blackbirds delicious offerings.
There were four different pies on offer, Shaker Citrus, Stone Fruit Granola, Matcha Custard and Salty Honey, and I was hard pressed to choose one to sample. The Matcha Custard really sounded good as I’m a fiend for the green stuff but I ultimately chose a slice of Salty Honey paired with Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks ice cream.
Salted Peanut Butter is one of my favorite Jeni’s flavors and pairing it with the Salty Honey pie was a match made in heaven. The pie had a flaky, sweet crust topped with a thick honey flavored custard with a bite of salt and the creaminess of the ice cream enhanced it perfectly. SO delicious!
This is the second collaboration between Jeni’s and Four & Twenty Blackbirds and I hope the partnership continues. That Matcha Custard is calling my name!
