Hurry Curry – Dining at Curry Wurst
I happen to have a lot of German blood in me (50% y’all!) so naturally I’m inclined to love most German foods. Lebkuchen, Spaetzle, Wiener Schnitzel, Pretzels, Bratwurst mm, mm, mm (sorry Sauerkraut!). So when I heard about a place called Curry Wurst I knew I just had to try it.
Now although I claim to be German I was not familiar with currywurst (the food) before visiting the restaurant. But, the name is pretty self explanatory as it’s a combination of curry and wurst (sausage). Now I don’t really like curry but I was willing to give it a go.
And lest you think I recommend things after trying them only once (well…sometimes…) I went back again. This time I ordered a bockwurst (veal and pork sausage) on a bun topped with sauteed onions.
Oh man, so so good! The fries were fresh out of the fryer and crisped to perfection. The sausage was cooked to order – hot and savory on a soft bun topped with slightly sweet caramelized onions. Again at $6.50 it was another great deal (fries are $3.50 with a complimentary dipping sauce and are big enough to share).
And the folks who work there are so nice! Seriously, that’s a big component. If you’re food is great but you’re a jerk chances are I ain’t comin’ back (now if course if you’re super sweet and your food is crap…I probably won’t come back either). But no worries here, everyone I spoke with was totally great.
So, go! go! go! And if you need even more convincing, I took my mom (the source of my German blood) and she was impressed. If that doesn’t get you to go, I don’t know what will.
