Indulging in Angel City Imperial Irish Red Ale
As much as I love Angel City beer I love whiskey even more. Give me an Old Fashioned or a Whiskey Sour and you’ve made my day. Last year I was happy to find out that famed distillery, Jameson, had partnered with the brewery to produce a limited edition ale aged in their whiskey barrels. The resulting Imperial Irish Ale was incredible and soon became one of my favorite beers. Luckily, this year brought another Jameson/Angel City collaboration and I was lucky enough to receive a bottle of the 2016 Imperial Irish Red Ale.
Once a year the distillery chooses a group of breweries to receive 10 whiskey barrels each through their Jameson Caskmates Drinking Buddies program and this year Angel City was invited back to the program. They were also the only brewery from California participating making the resulting Imperial Irish Red Ale a rare treat. I could not wait to give it a try.
Imperial Irish Red Ale is unlike any other beer and drinking it is a truly indulgent experience. Incredibly smooth and filled with a rich toffee flavor it’s a drink meant to be savored. This is not a beer you drink pint after pint of but instead bring out at a special occasion and sip like a fine wine. I absolutely love it.
If you want to grab a bottle it will be re-released on December 12th as part of the ACB Holiday Gift Set. Joined by a bottle of Funky Wit, Dark Rye Lager, two pilsner glasses and a bottle opener and retailing for $49 it’s sure to be a great gift for that special someone (like yourself).
Or if you’re in the mood for something a little more hoppy Angel City recently released their Duck and Cover Double Double IPA.
It’s got a good does of bitterness with a hint of tropical refreshment. If IPA’s are your thing this should be right up your alley.
