Lazy Sunday – The Return of Author Rhoda Janzen

So today is especially lazy since I’m not writing this post until the evening. I’ve been kind of busy lately and haven’t had much time for most of my lazy activities. I suppose that’s a good thing…

Luckily, I have had time to read and have a great book to recommend. Have you ever heard of Rhoda Janzen? How bout Mennonite in a Little Black Dress? If you recall that book was on the bestseller list a couple of years ago and was Ms. Janzen’s memoir about growing up as a Mennonite and her adult life away from the church.

Now I LOVE memoirs. I eat them up like candy. To me there’s nothing like learning someone’s life story – be it extraordinary or ordinary. Naturally, I read Mennonite in a Little Black Dress soon after it came out. So when I was given the opportunity to read and review her latest memoir I jumped at the chance!

I was sure glad I did because I thoroughly enjoyed Does This Church Make Me Look Fat? It’s a lighthearted look at some pretty heavy subject matter. I don’t want to give anything away but it involves an new love, a serious health issue, and, well, religion. Ms. Janzen has a wicked sense of humor that kept me in stitches throughout yet she never shied away from serious subject matter. It’s a book that’s both entertaining and thought provoking.
