Visiting the Historic Neff Estate
Awhile back I told you about the awesome group LAVA that puts together some of the coolest tours in SoCal. Well, recently they organized a tour of the historic Neff Estate in La Mirada. When I saw it on the schedule I knew I had to sign up because I had never heard of the Neff Estate before. And if I hadn’t even heard of it…then I definitely needed to see it.
Look closely and you may see a house back there! |
The estate is tucked away in a residential neighborhood and consists of three structures: the Neff Home, the Carriage Barn, and the George House.
The Neff Home is the largest structure and is the only one that is furnished as a historic home. The George House is unfurnished and houses a few display cases showcasing La Mirada history.
Did you know La Mirada had an olive industry?
The barn has been updated as a comunity center but does have displays of historic artifacts like these awesome milk bottles.
Is that so much better than those cheap plastic jugs?
Because the Neff House is the most historically accurate guided tours are provided. And that’s just what I took last Sunday. We were led around by a long time La Mirada resident who clearly loves her hometown and its historic treasure. She interwove historical facts with personal testimonials about her family’s connection to the house which gave me a real appreciation for what I was viewing.
As if the house itself wasn’t enough. Isn’t it lovely?
So, here’s where I would give you the info on how to visit but I’m in kind of a jam. I can’t locate any visitors info online. No website, no facebook page…not even any info on the city’s site. All I can tell you is that it’s on the corner of San Cristobal Drive and San Esteban Drive in La Mirada. It’s real. I’ve got the pictures to prove it! So if you want to check it out…head on over and hopefully someone will be there to show you around.
smart thoughtful guy!!
i went there too lmao.
