Market Fresh – A Visit to the Bixby Park Farmers Market
I hate buying produce from the grocery store (Sprouts excepted). Totally overpriced, covered in pesticide, tasteless, either unripe or rotten…I could go on and on. As such, I’m always on the lookout for a good source since I’m too lazy to grow my own. Luckily, recently I came across a great new farmer’s market that I just had to share.
This brand new market is located in Bixby Park in the awesome city of Long Beach and is open every Tuesday from 3-8pm. It’s put on by the Friends of Bixby Park – an organization dedicated to the preservation of the park.
I went this week around 6pm and found the market in full swing.
There were produce, food, and craft vendors offering a wide variety of wares.
Yes, that bottom photo is a portable pizza oven. I had dinner beforehand so I didn’t have the room to sample some wood fired pizza but it’s definitely on my list for next time.
Because, oh yes, there will be a next time. The cherries, nectarines, and strawberries I bought were some of the sweetest I’d ever had and the heirloom tomatoes and lettuce made a bountiful salad. And that mini squash pictured above? That’s going in tomorrow night’s pasta.
