Meet Me At the Globe – Visiting the Home of the Los Angeles Times
A while back I attended a program at the LA Times called Thursdays @The Globe. Basically, once a month on a Thursday at lunch time the historic paper presents a discussion and mini tour of the lobby. Being obsessed with anything involving local history I was super excited to attend.
I was not disappointed. We learned all about the history of the Times and the multiple buildings that served at it’s headquarters. And as promised, we were given a tour of the wonderfully preserved lobby. Check it out.

Deco at it’s finest! Those awesome murals were painted in 1935 by the artist Hugo Ballin. I was so inspired by my surroundings that I just had to take pictures of the exterior as well.
Buildings like this are why I love downtown LA.
But anyway, I’m getting a little sidetracked. Back to Thursdays @The Globe. They occur once a month a cover a variety of topics. One month you’re learning about the building’s history and another month you’re meeting with sportswriters and talking about the upcoming Olympics. And that’s exactly this month’s subject.
The Times Brings the Olympics Home – Our Pros Discuss the Summer Games is the name and tomorrow (6/21) is the game…or rather the date (got a little too caught up in my rhyming). And if you can’t make it tomorrow, hopefully you can in the coming months. I’m sure the topic will be interesting and I know the surroundings will be beautiful.
