A Refreshed Souplantation
full disclosure: I was invited to media tasting at Souplantation. All opinions are my own.
Souplantation has long held a special place in my heart. I discovered it in high school and enjoyed many an inexpensive meal there. I introduced it to my grandma and it quickly became her favorite restaurant. I can’t tell you how many times she, Shannon and I would enjoy a lunch there. My grandma became such a big fan that every birthday and Christmas she’d be sure to get some gift certificates. And then we would go to lunch again.
Since my grandma’s passing my visits to Souplantation fell away. Partly because I lost my constant dining companion and partly because I starting dining more at local, independent spots. I still liked Souplantation but it moved further and further to the back of my mind. When I received the invite to the tasting I was curious to revisit my former hangout and see how it had changed.
As soon as I walked in the door I could see it. It’s former slightly outdated look has been replaced by a fresh farm to table decor emphasizing their direct connection to agriculture.
This direct relationship to the farmer was something I was not aware of. With Souplantation, there is no middle man. They directly work with each of their produce suppliers to obtain the freshest ingredients possible. These relationships have last for years and have been mutually beneficial for each party. Throughout the restaurant you’ll find displays detailing this – there’s no closed doors here. Souplantation is happy to share how your food arrives from the farm to your table.
Speaking of food…
The salad bar is as delicious as I remembered. The tried and true favorites (like Wonton Chicken Happiness and Joan’s Broccolli Madness) remain and new treats have joined them. There are more fresh vegetables to choose from and some delicious new prepared salads like the Chipotle Lime & Cilantro Quinoa.
As for their soups, I’m especially fond of the Tomato Chipotle Bisque. Creamy goodness with a hint of spice it’s a flavorful addition to the menu. Paired with Grilled Cheese Focaccia Dippers it was a delight and I ended up craving it for days.
We also sampled a few upcoming dishes like these Tangy Lemon Muffins which I’ve long been a fan of. April is lemon month and they’ll be one of the featured items. Yum!
It was so nice to revisit Souplantation. I love the new changes and am so glad they’ve kept their signature items. I know it won’t be long before I head there again.
