Slip Sliding Away…Eating at SiLO Slider Bar
Down my gullet. How’s that for an opening images? And what on earth am I talking about? Well folks, I’m talking about sliders. And not just any sliders…I’m talking about the one’s offered at SiLO Slider Bar in Downtown LA.
So last week my friend and I were headed to downtown for an event and wanted to grab something to eat while there. I searched Yelp but couldn’t come up with anything that sounded tasty AND was inexpensive. Sure, lots of things sounded good but inexpensive? Not so much. Then I remembered I had recently read about SiLO Vodka Bar opening a location next door that served sliders. I perused the menu, saw the price was right, wiped up my drool and decided to give it a try.
The slider bar is actually a casual take out place next to the hip vodka bar. There’s counter service and only a few tables. To that I say Hallelujah! Restaurants are popping up right and left in downtown but casual places? Not so much.
For a take out place the options are tres chic. You can find sliders in an array of flavors including fried chicken, short rib, and buffalo. And like any true to go spot they have value meals! I opted for Value Meal #2 – Any three sliders with fries and a fountain drink.
Don’t those look delish? Since it was my first visit I decided to three different ones – OG SiLO (Fresh Angus Beef, SiLO Spread, Grilled Onions and Aged Cheddar), Truffle (Fresh Angus Beef, White Truffle Aioli, Shallot Crisps and Grilled Onions), and the Dirty Hippie (Rice and Black Bean Croquet, Cucumber, Tomato, Papaya, with Pico di Gallo and Guacamole).
The two beef sliders were soooo good. They were made with thick patties of rare beef. Normally I would not care for this as I like my beef very well done. This time? Could care less because they were so delicious. The fries were also awesome. To me, fries can make or break a menu. If I don’t like the fries, chances are I won’t come back. These fries totally passed. Nice and hot, made with fresh oil and topped with herbs. Perfecto.
Now you may have noticed that I didn’t mention the Dirty Hippie. Well….maybe I was too ambitious. Let’s just say it was not my thing. Somebody else may find it delicious but I just didn’t care for it.
My friend opted for three other flavors (crab, chicken, and short rib) and he also enjoyed them.
And for $11.50 it was a pretty great deal. Plus they also have a value meal #1 with only two sliders for $9.50. Sweet!
