Spotlight on The Honest Kitchen
I love my Local Spotlight column. It’s led me to discover so many awesome brands and artisans based out of Southern California. Along the way I’ve been able to taste some yummy treats and own some fabulous goods. But today’s a little different. Because I’ve got a brand that’s not for me but for my favorite four legged friend, Bailey. It’s The Honest Kitchen!
The Honest Company, based out of San Diego, is a human grade line of pet food. No processed, low grade ingredients here. It’s whole, natural, non GMO, dehydrated goodness that will benefit any dog or cat. Recently they sent some items for Bailey to try out.
Bailey continually struggles with food allergies. We’re constantly search for the items that are good for her and also taste good. I was eager to try out The Honest Kitchen to see if it would fit her diet. Now, this dog food is not like your average bag of kibble. This is dehydrated whole food. So instead of just giving her a couple of scoops I mixed the food with water, let it sit for 5 minute and served. Let me tell you, from the moment I opened the package Bailey could not wait to try it. She was sniffing around and looking at me giddy with anticipation. She could not sit still. After the time was up I put the food in her bowl and, just like that, it was gone. She gobbled it up and licked her bowl clean. No joke. (I’ve got a short video on my Instagram feed if you want to check it out.)
In addition to meals, The Honest Kitchen also offers treats. We were given pure Icelandic fish skin treats to try out. I had no idea dogs liked fish skin! I was a bit skeptical but I offered a piece to Bailey.
She sniffed it a bit, gently took it from me and started chomping away.
She was crazy about it! Normally Bailey is happy to pose for the camera. Not this time. I called her and called her but she would not stop enjoying her treat. In fact…
Is that a bit of the side eye?!?! Don’t worry Bailey, it’s all yours.
The Honest Kitchen is available in select stores or can be purchased online.
