Sriracha Tours and Nutella Trucks
Oh man, this weekend is a hot one! Despite, the heat I somehow found myself exploring the area in search of culinary treats. First stop, Hyu Fong Foods in Irwindale home of the celebrated Sriracha sauce.
In celebration of its 34th anniversary and the start of chili season the company threw open its doors to the general public and hosted a super fun celebration.
The highlight was a self guided tour of the facility to see how the famous sauce is made. The most memorable area was the chili grinding room. Wowee! Boy were my sinuses cleared!
It was also fascinating to discover that Huy Fong Foods makes their own bottles. I would have though they ordered their bottles from an outside vendor. Nope, made in house.
After the tour there were several opportunities to indulge in one’s love of Sriracha. How bout a t-shirt, beanie, or underwear?
There were lots of delicious samples of popcorn, chocolate and…wait for it…ice cream.
Hmm…the jury’s still out on that one. But the ice cream did put me in the mood for something sweet so I headed on down to Olvera Street where a certain truck happened to be parked.
Yes, that is a Nutella truck. It’s been traveling across the country spreading the happy.
I enjoyed a delicous apple topped with the spread and walked away with some samples, too. Mm, mm, mm. And, of course, I had to pose for a picture. As a lifelong fan, how could I not?
I use ALL the props.
You can still catch the Nutella truck in LA for the next couple of days. Find out more here. Tours of the Huy Fong Foods are available. Contact customer service for more info.
