Wonderground Art Scene – Visiting Disney’s Wonderground Gallery
I’m a total fan of indie craft fairs and have discovered so many talented artists through them. Especially print artists. I love the fabulous pictures they come up with and now own more prints than I have wall space. Recently, I found out that a couple of my favorite artists had been chosen for the inaugural show at Disney’s Wonderground Gallery.
Now, of course, my first questions was “what is that?” Well, it turns out that Disney has noticed that many of these artists have become quite popular and decided to capitalize on that by opening an art gallery at Downtown Disney.
Totally intrigued I decided to pay a visit to the gallery and ended up going on it’s opening day. I gotta tell you…I came away pretty impressed.
The opening exhibition required each artist to interpret two facets of Disney – Pixar and Mickey (but not together! They’re not thinking that far out of the box!). Oh so many cute pieces were on display and since I love Pixar there was a ton I wanted to buy.
Now, most items aren’t budget friendly. The original artwork sells for upwards of $300 (not really a bad price for original pieces) and the prints are $39.95. These aren’t craft fair prices folks! But luckily, they do have a few budget friendly items. I managed to pick up a couple of postcard sized prints for $2.95 each
Hipster Micky by Jerrod Maruyama |
The Claw by Daniel Handke |
and a magnet for $4.95.
Sum of His Parts by David Perillo |
And it didn’t cost anything to look around. So all in all it was a pretty enjoyable experience. Now I’m curious to see what future exhibition themes Disney comes up with.
