Cupcakes On Call – A Visit To the Sprinkles ATM

So last week I was in Beverly Hills, dahlings, and I just happened upon the most mahvelous creation. Really, dahlings, it was quel superb.

Ok, ok, that’s enough of that. I don’t what it is about Beverly Hills but it just brings out the Lovey Howell in me. So, anyway I happened to be shopping there last week (NOT on Rodeo, but the next street over – Beverly – where stores are actually affordable) and I decided to grab me a quick snack. And what better place to do that than at the lastest, greatest thing – the cupcake atm.

Sprinkles Cupcakes – the queen bee of the cupcake trend decided to up their game a bit. Cupcakes can’t be the “it” dessert forever. Not with pies and donuts and shave ice beating at their doors. So what’s something innovative that will have people clamoring to keep buying. How bout an atm machine that dispenses cupcakes at all hours of the day? Want a sweet breakfast? A snack for the commute home? A midnight treat? Stop by the atm, deposit $4 and voila! A sweet treat for one.

Now, full disclosure, I’ve never been a big fan of Sprinkles. I’ve always thought their cupcakes were just ok, nothing like my favorites from Big Man Bakes. But, still I was curious. A cupcake atm? Sure it’s gimmicky but I’ve gotta try it.

So here’s how it works. Step up to the screen

and pick your selection from at least a dozen options (including vegan and gluten free). Once you’ve made your decision (in my case Chocolate Marshmallow) insert the ole credit card (sorry, no cash).

From the shelves below

you cupcake will be pulled. You can see it all happen in real time on the video screen (unfortunately, it doesn’t show up well on film). A little door will open

and you can grab your purchase. But be quick! By the time I snapped the pic I barely had time to grab my treat before the door swung closed.

And that’s it! Easy peasy. And if you’re worried about freshness – the atm is attached to the cupcake shop and it is stocked throughout the day.

Oh! And here’s what I got –

How was it? Good. Not great, not delicious, but good. If you’re craving a sweet treat, the atm is perfect. Or if you want a unique Beverly Hills souvenir, you aren’t going to get much cheaper that $4.
