Angel City Brewery Introduces SaazBerry

Like anyone of my generation I grew up on Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and I couldn’t help but love the adventures of Charlie Bucket in that magical factory (though the boat sequence scared me to death – yikes!). So when I heard Angel City Brewery was introducing a beer inspired by the candy man himself I was quite intrigued. Luckily, I was able to attend the launch party for SaazBerry and I just may have found my new favorite beer.

SaazBerry is Angel City’s newest year round beer and it’s unlike anything they’ve every served previously. Made with a combination of raspberry, blueberry and elderberry and Saaz hops it’s a maroon concoction that delights the palette.

The combination of berries and hops makes for a sweet tart beer that’s light and fruity yet yet sour enough to hold it’s own against other beers. I love it. In fact, I’m drinking a bottle right now (for research, of course) and it truly is my new favorite Angel City beer.

This weekend (9/16 and 9/17) the brewery will be celebrating it’s release with Saaztoberfest featuring beer based cocktails, delicious eats and live music. If you can’t make it there the beer will be available throughout the state both on tap and in 6-packs.
