Eating at Bell Street Farm in Los Alamos, CA

Hello and welcome to Day 1 of the LA Explorer Road Trip! Recently, I traveled up the coast to San Francisco and visited so many wonderful places that I just have to share them with you. So, for the next week or two I’ll be posting about awesome things to do outside of LA.

Today, we’re starting off with a bang at the fabulous Bell Street Farm in the town of Los Alamos.

You may recognize the sign from last summer’s post about Los Alamos. At that time, I had briefly visited the restaurant in my travels throughout the Santa Ynez Valley. But what I saw intrigued me so when my sister and I planned this current trip we decided we had to stop on our way to the City by the Bay.

We had initially planned on stopping for breakfast but were delayed by traffic. Good thing because it turns out Bell Street Farm doesn’t open until 11am. We arrived a little early and strolled around town until they opened. Now, if you haven’t been to Los Alamos before know that it’s basically a one horse town. They’ve got one main street and…that’s pretty much it. I actually love that about it but it would make me think a place like Bell Street wouldn’t be able to sustain a decent clientele. Wrong. By the time they opened there was a large crowd waiting to enter and it never wavered. They’ve got plenty of business and with good reason. Their food is FANTASTIC!

The small menu consists of fresh takes on home-style favorites like soups, salads, sandwiches and roasted chicken.  On this visit I opted for the Rotisserie Chicken.

This half chicken came with a side salad and rosemary and white bean hummus. Wowwowwow. It was so delicious. I rarely order rotisserie chicken because I think it usually tastes like salt, oil and chemicals. Not here. The chicken was so fresh and moist and flavorful. And the hummus. Oh the hummus! It was the perfect dipping sauce.

My sister, an admitted pork nut, went for the Rotisserie Pork Sandwich. It came topped with a jicama slaw. My sister isn’t generally a slaw fan but this time she ate it all up. She loved the sandwich.

And if you’re looking for dessert, Bell Street Farm has you covered.

They’ve got delicious pudding, pastries, and cookies. Seriously, their chocolate chip and oatmeal cherry cookies are some of the best I’ve ever had. And to prove my point I’m going to embarrass myself a bit. We loved our meals at Bell Street Farm so much we decided to visit again on the way home. When we stopped by a few days later there were only six cookies left -3 chocolate chip, 3 oatmeal cherry. I bought them all. Yup. They are that good.
And if delicious food and a quaint setting isn’t enough the owner and staff are so kind and friendly. They even remembered us on our second visit! It makes me wish the restaurant was closer so I could visit more often. But then again I’m kind of glad it takes a journey to get there because it will make each of my visits that much more special.
