Entertaining with New York Style Pita Chips and More

New Year’s Eve is coming up and I have big plans. After work I’m going to rush home, grab my pajamas and relax. I’m just not a going out on the last night of the year kind of gal. I prefer to be comfy in my own home with a glass of champagne and Times Square on the TV. And snacks. Just because I’m not going out doesn’t mean I’m not noshing. Cheese and crackers…chips and dips…it’s a finger foods kind of night. This year I have the perfect snack thanks to the good folks at New York Style Pita Chips who sent me bags of their newest flavors to try out.

In order to bring a little heath into your snacking New York Style Pita Chips has released the Chia Seeds and Quinoa and Ancient Grains and Flaxseed varieties. On the back of each bag are recipes for dips to accompany the chips. Before Christmas I had family over and decided on a trial run for New Year’s Eve and made a couple. Well…I made the herb dip. The other recipe was for hummus and I used the holidays as an excuse to buy it premade.

I served them to my family and they were a hit! The chips are just salty enough to be tasty on their own and just subtle enough to serve as the right vessel for a delicious dip. I was partial to the Ancient Grains Pita with the hummus while my family preferred the Chia Seed with the Herb Dip. Luckily, there was plenty to go around.

That day our guests included a trio of kiddos all under the age of 6. Pita chips and hummus weren’t really there bag but, luckily, I had also been sent some Ruby Rockets.

Ruby Rockets

Ruby Rockets is a non dairy alternative to yogurt that contains both fruits and veggies. I offered it to the kids who eagerly agreed to try it. The 5 year old chose the tropical flavor and the 2 year old chose the strawberry. I gave one to each and had mixed results. The 5 year old took one bite and decided he wanted no more. It was like he had a radar for veggies and immediately noticed there was more to the snack than pineapple. And the 2 year old? LOVED it.

He took one bite, shouted “yum!” and kept on chowing down.

So the chips were a big hit and the Ruby Rockets a minor one. If only we had a delicious beverage. If I had the budget I could have had a Keurig Kold on hand. Recently, I was able to try out the new soda machine and it was pretty fun.

With a variety of drink options it’s like having a soda fountain in your own home. I tried authentic Coca-Cola, craft soda, iced tea, a mojito mixer and flavored seltzer water. I liked some drinks better than other and the Passion Fruit Seraphine Selzter was my favorite.

Unfortunately, with a $299 price tag it won’t be coming home with me anytime soon but it was fun to try out.

Regardless, I’m all set for New Year’s Eve with my New York Style Pita Chips, some hummus and a bit of bubbly. Here’s to an awesome 2016!
