Exploring Point Lobos State Natural Reserve

road trip

When planning our trip to Carmel one place that kept popping up as a must see was Point Lobos. We made sure to visit on our way out of town and, for me, turned out to be the highlight of our trip.

Point Lobos

Point Lobos State Natural Reserve is considered the jewel of the California State Parks. With breathtaking views like the one above it’s no wonder. The park IS that beautiful. The entire time we were there I kept thinking that it couldn’t be real. But it was!

We spent much of the morning hiking the trails and gaping in awe at our surroundings.

We also made sure to stop by the Whaler’s Cabin which was built in the 1850’s by Chinese fishermen.

Inside we met a kind park ranger who showed us around. The cabin holds a museum offering information on the history of the reserve.

We were both excited to learn that one of our favorite movies, Rebecca, was filmed there!

On the beach just below the cabin were several seals and their pups. It was birthing season and we saw so many baby seals.

Point Lobos is such an incredibly beautiful place. I’m so happy to have been there and can’t wait to go back!
