Having Dinner at Blue C Sushi Hollywood

One of my favorite intersections in LA is Sunset and Ivar. Amoeba Records on one corner and the Arclight on the other…it’s practically heaven for this music and film lover. Recently, Blue C Sushi invited me to come have dinner at their location here. Naturally, I headed right over!

Blue C Sushi

Blue C Sushi originated in Seattle and is inspired by the Tokyo subway system. Its main feature is a conveyor belt that delivers dishes right to your table – just grab what you want when it travels by! There are various color coded prices ranges and the items are rotated regularly so no need to worry about grabbing something that has been circling around all day. In addition there are a number of dishes that are made to order and an extensive drink menu.

I started the evening with a sake flight.

Since I’m not that familiar with sake I decided to go for the Refreshing and Soft flight. I ended up loving two out of the three so I guess I picked the right one!

While I waited for my kitchen items I decided to grab some things off the conveyor belt. From the top that’s a delicious cucumber salad, an edamame dip, and BLT sushi. The BLT sushi was fantastic! I was a bit hesitant to try it as it contains mayonnaise one of my least favorite foods. But the hostess recommended it so I decided to give it a whirl. So yummy!

Soon enough the kitchen items arrived.

There was Hama Chili (with yellowtail tuna), Tuna Tostada, Loaded Baked Potato, and Smoked Yellowtail Tacos. All so tasty! My absolute favorite was the Hama Chili – a crunchy, flavorful bite that had the perfect kick of spice.

At this point, I thought the meal was over and was happily satisfied with my experience. And then this came to the table:

Holy Toledo! This picture does not do justice to how big it was. And isn’t it so beautiful? All of this was handmade by the head chef. Not only does he make delicious food but he’s artistically talented too! I can’t even begin to explain all the pieces that made up this raw dish. It was a bevy of treats from the sea – tuna, oysters, scallops, octopus and on and on and on. Everything was very fresh and very good.

All in all I had a wonderful time at Blue C Sushi. The food was superb and the staff was outstanding. Everyone from the hostess to the waiter to the head chef to the manager was kind and helpful and made me feel very welcome. I can’t wait to go back.
