Lazy Sunday – Reading Gawky by Margot Leitman

Lazy Sunday – a column where I discuss my favorite lazy day indulgences – movies, television shows, books, music and more.

I am a sucker for a good memoir. Maybe I’ve heard of the person, maybe I haven’t but if they write a book about a period of their life – I’m in. I especially love memoirs by comedians – who doesn’t want a good laugh out of a book? So when I was approached to review the book Gawky: Tales of an Extra Long Awkward Phase by Margot Leitman I jumped at the chance.

Growing up, Margot was very tall for her age – almost six feet when she was in high school. As such, life was a bit awkward for her. In the book she shares her life from adolescence through college and all the embarrassing moments that occurred. The book made me laugh out loud on several occasions. Seriously, I dare you to read the passage about her accidentally handing her false teeth to the most popular girl in school while keeping a straight face.

I really enjoyed Gawky: Tales of an Extra Long Awkward Phase and recommend it to anyone looking for a fun read. In fact I was so inspired by it’s hilarity that the next book I read was also by a comedian.

And it was also so much fun to read. Now I need to find another comedian’s book so I can make it three for three!

full disclosure: I received a free copy of Gawky: Tales of an Extra Long Awkward Phase to review. All opinions are my own.
