Oscar Wilde at the Los Angeles Athletic Club

There are two things I must tell you before I begin. #1 – I LOVE The Importance of Being Earnest. #2 I’ve been dying to get inside the Los Angeles Athletic Club for a long time.

So, what’s that got to do with this post? Well, this past week I finally went to the Los Angeles Athletic Club so that I could see a sneak preview of that very play!

But this is no ordinary version of the Oscar Wilde masterpiece. You see, it’s called The Earnest Project and it’s an interactive experience encompassing the Invention Bar and the Famous Players restaurant at the Athletic Club.

The Los Angeles Athletic Club was founded in 1880 and was the first private club in Los Angeles. It’s located in the heart of Downtown and continues it’s athletic focus with a variety of recreational facilities available. And it has the above mentioned bar and restaurant which are fabulous!

Isn’t it like stepping back in time? I love it so much!
In these surroundings the actors perform the play while you drink and dine. They move from area to area and immerse the audience in the famous wit of Oscar Wilde.
On my visit I viewed the first act of the play and it was so much fun! The actors really embraced their roles and were able to provide an entertaining, unique experience.

I can only imagine how wonderful the entire play will be. When it officially opens on Thursday October 17th, it will include a themed dinner in the restaurant. How fabulous!

After, the preview ended my friend and I took the opportunity enjoy a drink and explore a bit.
