Pann-tastic! Having Breakfast at Pann’s

It all started with a promise made 6 years ago when I took my little sister to see Bewitched (don’t judge, it had potential). In one scene Nicole Kidman walked out of a cool looking retro diner. I immediately recognized it as the fabulous Pann’s and I whispered to my sister that I had been there before. She was super excited so I told her that I would be sure to take her. And this week, a mere 7 years later, I lived up to that promise.

I honestly have no idea what took me so long because Pann’s is just pure awesomeness. It’s a diner that has existed since 1958 and is still as great looking as the day it opened.

It’s been featured in numerous tv shows, movies, etc. and rightfully so as it’s a true landmark. And the food is pretty awesome also.

On this particular day we went for breakfast. I was in a sweet mood so I opted for the belgian waffle.

With optional real whipped cream. (I was feeling very Leslie Knope when I ordered it). Ok, see that little tub of orange liquid. I totally thought it was a tropical syrup. I lifted it up to my nose, took a big sniff and…melted butter. Whoops! Good thing I didn’t pour it all over my waffle cus butter aficionado I am not.

The waffle was totally yummy and the biscuit was…oh! did I not mention the biscuit?

I broke off a piece before I realized I forgot to take a pic

When we entered the diner there was a sign mentioning LA Mag had chosen their biscuits as the best in Los Angeles. Naturally, I had to try it (carbs be damned!). So, so, good! I love biscuits and therefore am totally picky. This one definitely gets my seal of approval.

My sis opted for the breakfast special – french toast, eggs, and bacon.

She gave it two thumbs up.

And if you still are on the fence about visiting, check out this bonus video from the super fabulous Charles Phoenix.  If I can’t convince you, hopefully he will.

Totally awesome! These preserved-in-amber diners remind me of growing up, begging my mom to sit at the counter, eating crisp, buttery grilled cheese sandwiches while swiveling in my counter stool. Thanks for posting!
