SoCal Connected Returns to KCET
Oftentimes people will ask me how I find out about all the places I explore in SoCal. Honestly, I can’t often remember what tangent has led me to a particular place but I do have certain staples that help keep me informed. LAVA. DeLab. Los Angeles Magazine. Huell Howser. SoCal Connected.
SoCal Connected, the flagship news program of KCET, enters it’s seventh season tonight. I can’t recall when I first discovered the program but I’ve long been a fan of its in depth coverage of our area.
The show, anchored by the personable Val Zavala, is a reliable source of information about Southern California and its diverse landscape. Personally, I can’t stand the traditional news program. Whether it be on a network or a 24 hour news channel I find it to be entirely filled with sensationalism and has very little to do with actual news. Not so with SoCal Connected. The correspondents on the show present well researched, informative pieces on various social, environmental and cultural causes.
For example, this season will cover such topics as the debate over coyotes, recently legalized backyard beekeeping, and the diminishing trade of taxidermy. I am completely interested in each and every one of these topics and I’m sure I’ll find more things to discover as this season unfolds.
You can catch new episodes of SoCal on Wednesday nights at 8pm. In the meantime let’s revisit this story from a previous season.
