SoCal Events November 1-8

Happy Halloween! I hope your trick or treating yielded lots of chocolate and very few raisins. And while you’re digging into your pile of goodies don’t forget November is just around the corner. Literally. It’s tomorrow. But no fear. I’ve got you covered with a list of fun events to celebrate the first week of the new month.

November 1st is not just the beginning of the month it’s also the date of the annual Los Angeles Conservancy Fall tour. We Heart Garden Apartments is all about the historic garden apartment movement of the last century.

The day will take you to three unique complexes in Baldwin Hills, Sherman Oaks, and Venice where you’ll have the opportunity to stroll the grounds and even tour some residences. It’s sure to be a fascinating glimpse into this unique corner of architectural history!

Speaking of things of the past, have you noticed Dunkin Donuts return to SoCal? I’ve yet to visit a location but I have a feeling that’s going to change soon. Maybe this Monday when the brand celebrates the launch of their new croissant donut at their Downey location.

Starting at 7am on November 3rd the first 500 people will get to try the new treat for free! Now that’s sure to cure a case of the Mondays.

On Wednesday, November 5th and Thursday, November 6th there’s a short but significant exhibition of historic photographs at Sotheby’s Los Angeles.

175 Masterworks To Celebrate 175 Years Of Photography: Property from Joy of Giving Something Foundation features famous works from Alfred Stieglitz, Walker Evans, August Sander and more. I’m partial to the above August Sander piece as I’m a huge fan of his People of the Twentieth Century project. If you’re not familiar with his work, I highly recommend further research. It’s simply incredible.

Friday, November 7th brings the debut of Disney’s latest animated film Big Hero 6.

Big Hero 6

I was lucky enough to catch a media preview of the film and I really enjoyed it. It’s a fun, unique glimpse into the adventures of six unlikely superheroes. Led by the irascible Hero and his sidekick Baymax the sextet learn about friendship and responsibility while saving the futuristic city of San Frantokyo. Both heartwarming and hilarious it’s a fun movie all around. I heart Baymax!

Finally, on November 8th, we return to the world of historic theatre with another great Los Angeles Theatre Foundation tour.

This extensive tour will take you all through the beautiful Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro. LAHTF tours are not be missed. They’re super informative and are truly behind the scenes. I guarantee you’ll see more of the theatre than you ever thought you could. I’m sure it will be fascinating.
