Staying at Hofsas House in Carmel-by-the-Sea

full disclosure: I was provided with free accommodations. All opinions are my own.

road tripNow that the weather’s warmer and summer’s just around the corner I figure it’s time for another road trip. And what better place to go than the Monterey Peninsula? So last week my sister and I hit the road and headed up the coast. Our ultimate destination was the seaside town of Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Our accommodations for the weekend were at the lovely Hofsas House located in the heart of town. This quaint hotel is a Carmel tradition, having been in operation for over 60 years. It was founded my Donna Hofsas and is currently operated by her granddaughter, Carrie. I was lucky enough to visit with her during the trip and learned that running this hotel is her true passion. The comfort and happiness of her guests are at the forefront of her mind and she is a wonderful hostess.

Hofsas House

The Hofsas House contains only 38 guest rooms which allows them to be quite spacious. When we entered our room we were shocked at how large and inviting it was. It’s not merely a place to rest your head but to feel at home, too.

There are armchairs, a fireplace, a large closet, and a balcony that offers a lovely view.

I enjoyed sitting outside in the morning and enjoying my breakfast. Speaking of…continental breakfast is included with your accommodations. In the morning you can just head to the cozy lobby where an arrangement of goodies await. Trays are also provided so you can take them back to your room.

Like I mentioned earlier, Hofsas House is located in the heart of town and shops, restaurants, and the beach are located within walking distance. I loved that I could just park my car at the hotel and we could walk everywhere we wanted to go. We took full advantage of this and walked to dinner, the beach, and wine tasting.

Speaking of wine tasting, did you know the Carmel Valley is an up and coming wine region? To celebrate this Hofsas House offers a Monterey Win & Cheese pairing package. For an additional fee you can have wine and cheese waiting for you in your room. We had this and it was a lovely surprise upon our arrival. Also, there are several tasting rooms in town. Carmel-by-the-Sea offers a wine passport that provides you with access to a variety of tastings in multiple locations and is available for purchase at the hotel. We received one and had a fun time heading to town to do some tasting (and buying…it’s good wine!).

There’s so much to do in the Carmel/Monterey area that we never once turned on the TV when we were there. We just went and went and went. I can’t wait to share with you all the wonderful things we discovered on our adventure!

You’re making me so ‘homesick’ for Hofsas! Sounds like you guys had a great time & we hardly used our TV, either; just at 6am Mike put I Love Lucy on to try to motivate me outta bed for our walk to see the sunrise 🙂 Great town!!
