Taking a Cooking Class with Alain Coumont of Le Pain Quotidien + GIVEAWAY

Long ago when it was time to figure out what I wanted to do with my life I decided I wanted to be a chef. Don’t ask me why…I hated cooking but I did like to bake. I took some classes and it didn’t take long to realized it wasn’t the career for me. Flash forward to now and I do like to cook and I still like to bake. So when I got the chance to take bread baking class at one of my favorite restaurants, Le Pain Quotidien, I couldn’t say no.

The class was led by Alain Coumont, the company’s founder, who came to town to celebrate the release of Le Pain Quotidien Cookbook.

The Le Pain Quotidien Cookbook is chock full of delicious recipes and he taught us how to make a few. First came the bread – seeded rolls and Fougasse.

So, so delicious! By the way,the class was held in the kitchen of the Fashion Island location. It’s a huge airy space where baking classes are held weekly. So if you’re so inclined check out the schedule – it’s the only location they are offered on the West Coast.

Back to the class. After prepping the bread we headed out into the restaurant to make a couple of the signature tartines. First up was a Corn, Jalapeno, & Goat Cheese Tartine.

Next came the Beet Caviar, Caper & Wild Salmon Tartine.
Oh, WOW! Now ordinarily I probably wouldn’t have tried these. I take that back. I would have tried the corn one but would have avoided the salmon. But, since I was in the class I figured I’d taste everything and I’m glad I did because both were absolutely delicious.

It was such an awesome day – Alain was an affable host, the restaurant was so warm and inviting, and the food was delicious.

Speaking of the food…how would you like your own copy of the Le Pain Quotidien Cookbook? Because I’ve got one up for grabs! So enter below and good luck!

What an awesome opportunity! I love the tartines at Le Pain Quotidien. The seasonal menu is awesome too – had an excellent peach salad last summer at the Westwood location. Cheers!
