Visiting Elsewhere, Joyride, and Lost and Found Vintage

Happy Dapper Wednesday!

I love vintage anything – films, clothing, music, housewares, collectibles…I could go on and on. So, when I heard about Dapper Day my first thought was about vintage dresses. Now, you don’t have to wear vintage and, honestly, I won’t be (it’s very, very hard to find my size in vintage togs) but that doesn’t mean that I can’t use some inspiration. So, I headed to the place that I was sure would inspire – Old Town Orange and it’s trio of vintage shops – Elsewhere, Joyride, and Lost and Found.

A few years ago I first noticed Elsewhere Vintage as a tiny shop on a side street adjacent to the Orange Circle. Soon, it moved around the corner to the main drag and a bigger location. Shortly after that it split into two shops – Elsewhere Vintage for the ladies and Joyride for the fellas. Now, there’s a third shop, Lost and Found, specializing in newer vintage (60s, 70s, 80s, etc.). Wow! That’s quite a growth! And it’s well deserved because it (talkin’ about all three) is one of the best vintage shops I’ve ever been visited.

As you can see from the pics above the store has a wonderful design scheme. I love the vignettes that are found all over. Everything’s so beautifully displayed I just want to buy it all. But that’s not the only reason I love the store. Another would be the smell or rather, the lack thereof. Most vintage shops I’ve been to smell musty. Not Elsewhere. The store is in impeccable condition and the clothing is in beautiful condition. I just wish I had a figure that was made for it.

As much as I love Elsewhere I have to admit my favorite of the three is Joyride. I know it’s a men’s shop but I just love it.

When you walk in you’ll here classic tunes on the soundtrack and you’ll find the salesmen dressed to the nines in period regalia. There’s also an abundance of curiosities for sale along with the the clothing and accessories. Want a taxidermied turtle in a tuxedo? You can find it here.
Lost in Found is also a great shop for those interested in the time periods it represents.
flash would’ve been nice, huh?

My interests tend to go back further in time so I don’t visit this shop as often as the others. But, as you can see (amidst the blur) it’s also got a great layout.

So, if your dapper dress leans toward the vintage head on over to these trio of shops for some great finds!
