When the Stars Align…Lunch at Starry Kitchen
Great food abounds. That’s what I always say. Well, I’ve actually never said it before. But, it’s totally true. And I know cuz it recently happened to me when I ate the most delicious of meals at Starry Kitchen.
Starry Kitchen is one of those restaurants that has the foodie world buzzing. Starting out as an underground restaurant in the owner’s apartment (how’s that for thinking outside the box?) it’s now an official dining spot in Downtown LA. Nestled in the California Plaza complex, it’s a bit of a pain to get to if you don’t work there but don’t let that deter you…it’s totally worth the effort.
The style is asian fusion and the menu is a bit unique. Pick your flavor, pick how you want it, and pick your side. Huh? Well, basically they have a rotating menu of options. Every week it changes. On my visit I chose lemongrass chicken (yummmm). Then I had the option to have it as a wrap, a bahn mi sandwich, a noodle bowl, or a salad. I went for the bahn mi as I’m a huge fan of those tasty sandwiches. My meal included a side so I went for the basil rice.
HOLEY TOLEDO! Was it ever delicious!!!! The sandwich was pure perfection. And the rice! It had a hint of spice that took me by surprise and man did I enjoy it. Oh, and that green drink is a cucumber mint agua fresca. A bit disconcerting at first, I ended up loving it by the end.
So, how much did this plate of yumminess set me back? $7.50 (before tax)! Yup, that’s it! I did manage to get the drink for free by checking in on Yelp with my handy Iphun. Which, of course, you can totally do too.
So, what are you waiting for? In the word’s of Linus “Go man…GO!”
