A Tale Of Olives and Ribbon Candy – Visiting Graber Olive House and Logan’s Candies

After a brief hiatus, the adventure in Ontario continues…

So after my night at the Aloft Hotel I decided to hang around town a bit and see the sites. And, no, I didn’t go to Ontario Mills. Instead I headed in the opposite direction to Old Town Ontario where I came across a couple of local institutions.

Graber Olive House has been in business since 1894 and produces some of the highest quality olives in Southern California. Their headquarters are super quaint. They’ve got a gift shop, a gourmet food shop, and a small museum.
Through a window in the museum I caught a glimpse of the production facilities.
I also saw a sign that stated they offered free tours. Now you know I was on top of that! Unfortunately, I was visiting during the lunch hour – the only time tours are not offered during the day. Just my luck! But I still managed to stroll around the grounds and take in all the loveliness.
Now I have to admit that I don’t like olives. Can’t stand them actually. I appreciate them but near my tongue they shall never be (though I HAD to buy a can. How could I not? And it found a good home with my aunt). But ribbon candy…that I LOVE! So thank goodness that just down the street is the historic Logan’s Candies.
Logan’s Candies has been in the confectionery business since 1933 and is home to numerous handmade goodies. It’s the perfect place for this time of year as they make ribbon candy and candy canes in many, many flavors. I managed to try about a dozen (don’t worry, I shared!) and yum! So, so good. Ribbon candy seems to be an endangered sweet and that’s such a shame. It’s so delicious and so beautiful. It’s really an art form.

But, I suppose not everyone likes it (it’s probably all you olive lovers out there!). Well, that shouldn’t stop you from visiting Logan’s because they’ve got other goodies, too. Did someone say chocolate?
