Sidecar Doughnuts VS. Donut Bar

I’m not the biggest doughnut fan. In fact, for the longest time I couldn’t stand them. Then, they started going gourmet and what I previously found to be balls of grease turned into something delicious.

Orange County is now home to multiple fancy doughnut shops with the two most popular being Sidecar Doughnuts in Costa Mesa and Donut Bar in Fountain Valley. My sister loves Sidecar while I’m partial to Donut Bar. Recently we decided to visit both shops in one day and see if we could change each other’s mind.

Sidecar vs. The Donut Bar

For this very scientific experiment we decided to purchase the Mexican Chocolate doughnut from each location. Sidecar is on the left and Donut Bar is on the right.

The Sidecar one is smaller and topped with dark chocolate and cinnamon. It has an intense flavor that brings the doughnut to the next level. The Donut Bar one is much larger and topped with milk chocolate, cinnamon, and toasted marshmallows. It’s got a nice sweet flavor and a soft cake-like texture.

After each of us tried both donuts we discovered our opinions hadn’t changed. Shannon still prefers Sidecar and I still prefer Donut Bar. Oh well, at least it gave us a good excuse to get some donuts.
