At Last! Finding My Shangri-la at The Last Bookstore

I love books. Love, love, love them. Throughout my life they’ve been a constant. When I was a toddler my parents would find me in my crib looking at a stack of picture books. When I was in grade school my favorite day of the week was library day. As a preteen I would visit the local library every 3 days (really) and bring home a stack of books every time. During my high school and college years…well…I was a little distracted. But, once I graduated my reading life began afresh. Now I’m back to frequent trips to the library and nights spent curling up with a good read.

Unfortunately, most books aren’t really cheap and decent bookstores are few and far between. I know you can find bargains on Amazon but it’s just not the same. So, when I was in Downtown Los Angeles this Saturday and I happened into The Last Bookstore it was a serendipitous moment. I felt like the heavens opened and I could hear choirs singing. At last I’d found what I was looking for.

Located in a historic building, The Last Bookstore is long on charm. Just look at the counter!

Why hasn’t anybody thought of that before? And if you think that’s a lot of books, wait til you see the store. Ten thousand square feet! Ten thousand square feet of new and used tomes. This IS heaven!

And since many of their books are used, stocking up on reads won’t break the bank. I managed to snag three hardcover babies for ten bucks! If by chance, that’s still too much….

A whole room devoted to $1 titles. I found a collection of Dickens stories in here. I love me some Dickens. Especially for a dollar.
