Catching the LEGO Americana Roadshow at Glendale Galleria
full disclosure: I received a gift bag when I attended this preview. All opinions are my own.
As a kid I never could get into building things with LEGO bricks. I was too impatient to follow the directions and most of my creations tended to be…abstract. Despite this I’m endlessly fascinated with LEGO creations. Be it a life-sized Buzz Lightyear, a replica of the Queen Mary or the Simpson’s house I’m amazed by what folks can create with toy bricks. Needless to say, I was pretty excited to preview the LEGO Americana Roadshow currently on display at Glendale Galleria.
The Americana Roadshow, featuring replicas of iconic American structures, has been touring the country for the past several months and on May 13th it debuted at Glendale Galleria, the only West Coast stop. On display until the 29th the structures are incredibly detailed homages to our country’s history.
Last week I made sure to stop by the Galleria to check out the exhibit. It was my first time at the shopping center and, wow, is it big! There are 10 structures scattered throughout the mall and finding them makes for a fun scavenger hunt. In fact, there are maps at each station to help you find them. On the map you’ll find a set of trivia questions and if you answer them all you can take it to the LEGO store (conveniently located at the mall) and get a free collectible card pack.
I didn’t get around to answering the trivia but I did use the map to make my way around the mall and I discovered an array of fascinating pieces from the Statue of Liberty to the Supreme Court.
At each spot I found a crowd of people admiring the detailed handiwork and snapping pics. Looks like I’m not the only one impressed by the handiwork!
In addition to the monuments there are also boxed displays showcasing the fun side of LEGO bricks. I was partial to above ski-slope/snowman build and kept discovering fun little tidbits (robots confronting a pair of santas?!?) as I admired it. If the displays ignite your creativity there’s also a LEGO play area filled with tons of bricks just waiting to be turned into something special.
The LEGO Americana Roadshow will only be in Glendale until May 29 so be sure to check it out. If you happen to go this weekend (May 20-21) you’ll also receive your very own Washington Monument mini build. How awesome is that?
